Robert Earle Calhoun Jr., age 53 years, a resident of Franklin, Tennessee, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at his home. Robert was born February 18, 1964, in Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina, to Robert (Bob) Earle Calhoun, Sr. and Patsy Hall Calhoun. He spent his childhood in Woodruff, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. On September 5, 1993 Robert was united in marriage to Shelly Kay McBride. Robert graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1986 and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was a proud and avid Gamecock fan. Robert’s passion in life was helping others. He spent many years coaching youth baseball and basketball, served as President of the Franklin High School Baseball Booster Club and as Vice President of the Franklin Athletic Boosters Club. He was involved in fundraising for the Nashville Ronald McDonald House for many years. Robert spent his entire career in food service sales. His most recent position was with Restaurant Technologies, Inc. where he was employed as an account manager for the McDonald’s business unit.
Robert is survived by: his wife, Shelly McBride Calhoun of Franklin; their children, Rachel Leigh and Ethan Robert, at home; parents, Bob and Patsy Calhoun of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina; sister, Beth (Jeff) Calhoun Lorey; brother in law, Patrick McNamara; nieces and nephew, Anna and Greyson Lorey and Shannon and Madison McNamara, all of Cornelius, North Carolina. Robert was preceded in death by a sister, Leslie Calhoun McNamara. Also, father in law, John McBride, of Metropolis, Illinois; sister in law, Sharon (Keith) McBride Felker; niece Kayla (Mark) Felker Sauerbrunn, all of Karnak, Illinois; nephew, Travis (Angela) Felker, of Metropolis, Illinois; great-nieces, Allie, Hannah, and McKenzie Sauerbrunn, all of Karnak, Illinois, and great-nephew, David Felker, of Metropolis, Illinois.
Funeral services honoring the life of Robert Earle Calhoun, Jr, will be conducted Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11 a.m., at Franklin First United Methodist Church, 120 Aldersgate Way, Franklin, Tennessee, with Rev. Roger Parker and Rev. Sarah Carty officiating. Visitation at the church will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. Visitation will also be at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, 3009 Columbia Ave., Franklin, Tennessee from 4 to 8 pm on Friday evening. Interment will be at Williamson Memorial Gardens. Honored to serve as pallbearers are family and friends.
