Robert E. Mayo – Obituary

robertReverend Robert E. Mayo, 85, of Huntsville, Ala., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, just four months after the loss of his beloved wife of 68 years, Norma Sue Mayo. He was the son of the late Rev. Thomas Preston Mayo and Henrietta Bridges Mayo, of Attalla, Ala. He was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church and the Faithful Followers Sunday School class of Huntsville. The Rev. Mayo retired from Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern Railroad after 37 years as a C and S Supervisor.

He was also a retired minister previously pastoring Shipps Baptist Church and Pleas Mount Baptist Church, Gurley, Ala., and Evergreen Baptist Church, Florence, Ala., Second Baptist Church, Sheffield, Ala., and Calvary Baptist church in Tuscumbia, Ala.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose greatest joys were serving the Lord, spending time with his family and with his Muriel Drive neighbors and watching football.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Jean (Eudon) Daily, David (Felicia) Mayo, of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Darlene (Jim) Seay, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Tommy (Kim) Mayo, of Huntsville, Ala.; grandchildren, Kristie (Shane) Swinney, Stacey (Tim) Forrester, Lindsey (Jason) Bonner, all of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Jennifer Seay, of Atlanta, Ga., Justin and Casey Mayo, of Huntsville, Ala.; and great-granddaughters, Lillie Kate and Ellie Claire Swinney, Karley Forrester, Lauryn Richardson, Whitley Forrester, Taylor, Hillary and Carson Bonner, all of Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Pallbearers will be Jim Seay, Justin Mayo, Shane Swinney, Jason Bonner, Tim Forrester and Darius Jones. Honorary pallbearer will be Eudon Daily.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at Colbert Memorial Chapel in Tuscumbia, Ala. Services will be at 2:30 today in the chapel with the Rev. Shane Swinney officiating. Interment will follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens. Colbert Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
