Dr. Robert Douglas Weathers, 89 years old of Florence, passed away
July 15, 2023 at his residence, in Florence. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Elkins Funeral Home, Florence. Funeral service will immediately follow at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Elkins Funeral Home with Brother Dwayne McDuff officiating. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Doug was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather to his family. He was a member and Elder at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Florence. He was proud to have served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy. He loved music and was a band director for many years in North Alabama. He later obtained his doctorate in education at the University of Alabama and served at various schools in the state as Assistant Principal and Principal in Mobile and Opelika. He concluded his career in education at the University of North Alabama as a teaching intern coordinator and supervisor. He was born September 23, 1933 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to Jesse Collins Weathers and Henrietta Cottingham Weathers. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Billie Colleen Dowd, loving wife, Mary Ann Weathers and daughter, Delores Ann Weathers.
Doug is survived by his children; Douglas Weathers; Laura Ann Morris (Jeff); and his grandchildren, Kayleigh Abigail Weathers, Anna Claire Weathers, Catherine Leigh Weathers, Lyta Morris, and Eirik Morris.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to thank the members of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the staff and nurses of Hospice for the care and love shown to our father and grandfather during his illness.
