Visitation for Robert Donald McCain, 92, of Tuscumbia, Alabama will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Gary Carter officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia will immediately follow the service. Mr. McCain died Tuesday, November 19th at his home. Born May 5, 1921, Mr. McCain was raised in Lexington, Alabama, graduated from Lexington High School, was a Mason, and a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from TVA after a long career as a land surveyor and contract manager. The son of a Cumberland Presbyterian minister and a lifetime member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Mr. McCain attended Park Terrace Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sheffield. Mr. McCain was a loving husband, sibling to five brothers and sisters, and a much loved uncle. He loved people and had a gift for bringing happiness to those around him with his humor and good nature. Whether teaching Sunday School classes, playing baseball, golfing, hunting, or just listening he was one of God’s special, ageless messengers to children and young people, always sharing life’s lessons and desirable values. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Eloise Hester McCain; his parents, Robert N. and Irene McCain; his siblings, Hildred McCain Hester, Howard McCain, Coleman McCain Shannon, Fern McCain Hester, and Hiram McCain; and his nephew, Rex McCain. Mr. McCain is survived by 13 nephews and nieces: Melinda Burnette, Melanie Bodiford, Dwight Hester, Jed Hester, Ricke Hester, Kristie LaHue, Philip McCain, Robert Wayne McCain, Joan Mason, Robert Thomas Porter, Norma Jean Putnam, Judy Sizemore, and Tessa Swineheart; niece-in-law Francis McCain; several grand-nephews and grand-nieces; three sisters-in-law, Jean McCain, Betty Patterson, and Faye Hester; and rabbit running beagles Abner and Jolly. Pallbearers will be nephews Jed Hester, Ricke Hester, David McCain, Philip McCain, Robert Wayne McCain, and Dwight Hester. Nephew Robert Thomas Porter will provide music during the service. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the following people for their care and kindness during Mr. McCain’s illness: Dr. Laurence Carmichael, Dr. Kenneth Lemaster, very devoted neighbors, especially Ben and Shari Terrell, church friends, and special care givers, Sue Howard, Reba Newell, Lura Agee, and Tammy Miller. Memorials may be made in Mr. McCain’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
