Robert C. (Bob) McKelvey, 84, of Florence, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at his home surrounded by family.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 12 at Greenview Funeral Home, at 10 a.m. with service to follow at 12 in the chapel with Brother Stan Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Park.

Mr. McKelvey served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He served on the U.S.S. Bremerton. He was a graduate of Coffee High School and attended the University of North Alabama.

Mr. McKelvey was preceded in death by his parents Doyle T. and Hettie Jackson McKelvey, two brothers Bill and Charles McKelvey, sister in law Barbara McKelvey, brother in law Ronnie England and two nephews Lee and Chuck McKelvey.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Helen Jones McKelvey the love of his life; two daughters Deb McKelvey Cardwell, husband Don and Kimberly McKelvey ; two sisters Shirley England, Frances Keeton (Leon); Sister in laws Willodean McKelvey, Linda Faulkner (Jimmy); brother in laws Tommy Jones (Billie) and Larry Jones as well as a host of special nieces and nephews and many friends.

His proudest accomplishments were his two grandsons Wes Cardwell (Tara) and Evan Cardwell (Kristen) as well as his great grand-daughters Annie and Kaleigh Beth Cardwell (expected to arrive in July).

He loved his family, his country, his church family, and was an avid Alabama football fan. Bob never met a stranger.

If everyone could have a daddy and granddaddy like ours this world would be a much better place.

Pallbearers will be Don Cardwell, Wes Cardwell, Evan Cardwell, James Jones, Drew Phillips, Blair Johnston and Patrick Kershaw. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior men’s Sunday school class at Killen.
