Robert Mansfield Wayne, age 53, passed from this life into eternity on Friday, May 10th, 2024. ‘Bobby’, the son of Dr. James William Wayne, Jr. and Barbara McMahan Wayne, was born in Booneville, MS on April 28,1971.
Bobby graduated from Corinth High School in 1990, where he was named Mr. CHS and was a four-year member of the state championship golf team. He continued his education at Ole Miss, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and also attended Northeast Mississippi Community College, where he was a member of their fist golf team. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1996, with a degree in Biology. Growing up, Bobby attended First United Methodist Church with his family. In 2015 he became a member of Oakland Baptist Church.
Bobby was a tree farmer, the only profession he ever truly wanted. He loved the land and had great respect for the generations who had cared for the land before him. He considered the land God’s creation and himself a steward of that creation. His goal was to leave it for future generations improved from how he had received it. Bobby was a hunter. He considered it his responsibility to care for the wildlife on the land. He planted food plots of vegetation which contained the nutrients needed to produce healthy herds of deer. He required those in his hunting clubs to be respectful of the deer they hunted and to obey all hunting laws and restrictions. He took great joy in training young people to be responsible hunters.
Bobby was proud to be a citizen of a community rich in Civil War history. He was a collector of relics and a student of history books which contained the personal stories and letters of both Confederate and Union soldiers. He felt that the soldiers on both sides each believed they were doing God’s will, and that ultimately good came from it.
Greeting Bobby at the gates of glory were his paternal grandparents, Jim & Otha Wayne; his maternal grandparents, Esmond C. & Hester Ruth McMahan; his beloved father, James William Wayne, Jr.; and his uncles, Jimmy and Mansfield McMahan.
Those who await their reunion with Bobby in heaven include his beloved mother, Barbara McMahan Wayne; his brother, James William ‘Trey’ Wayne, III & sister-in-law, Buffy; his niece, Mary Wayne Boruff (Jordan); his nephew, William Lee Wayne, and innumerable aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International, The Lighthouse Foundation of Corinth’s KAA Camp Fund, or Oakland Baptist Church. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve that family of Mr. Robert “Bobby” Mansfield Wayne.
