, age 78, Muscle Shoals passed away Friday, December 12, 2014. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 3:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Brett Pitman officiating. Burial is at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Bob was a native of Franklin County and a member of the Church of Christ. After retiring as a conductor at Norfolk Southern Railway, Bob spent most of his time doing what he loved, photography and volunteer work. He volunteered for 25 years at the Colbert County Courthouse records room, at the Florence Public Library genealogy room, and numerous other places around the Quad Cities. Bob dedicated many years to placing military markers on Confederate veteran’s graves in over 20 states and was an avid member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He was a certified genealogist, and was a part of the Natchez Trace Genealogical Society. Bob was also a part of the Military Order of the Stars and Bars.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Elza “Sandy” and Irene Bentley and son-in-law, Eddie Harrison. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vera Irions Bentley; son, Robert “Bob” Bentley, Jr. and wife, Amy; daughter, Angela Harrison; grandchildren, Andrea Herston and husband, Logan, Jennifer McMillian and husband, Matt, Grant Bentley, Carson Bentley and Caitlin Bentley; and Great-grandchildren, Bentley and Callie Ann Herston.
Pallbearers will be Grant Bentley, Carson Bentley, Matt McMillian, Kerry Gilbert, Mike Thomas, and Brandon Wilcutt. Honorary pallbearers are William “Bill” Gotcher, Dr. William “Bill” McClanahan, and Donald Murks.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warriors.
