Robert “Bob” Sanford, 86, of Dora, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
Robert was a member of the Church of Christ, and would always read his bible any chance he got. Robert Served in the United States Army during the 1950s. After his military service he began working for the Birmingham Fire Department in 1960. Robert served the Birmingham Fire department during the Civil Rights Movement and continued to serve the Birmingham communities until his retirement in 1994. Robert was also a founding member of the Bagley Fire Department. After retirement, Robert enjoyed traveling with his wife and family and being outside working on his property.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Nix Sanford; parents, Troy and Dena Sanford, and siblings, Norman Ray Sanford, Faye Spiller, and Aubrey Sanford.
Left to cherish Robert’s memory include his son, Joe (Jamie) Sanford, grandchildren, Jessica Gregory, Baylee (Emory) Sanford, McKensie Ruth Sanford, and McAiden Burns Sanford; great-grandchildren, Bonnie Gomez and London Joseph Sanford; sisters, Carolyn Swindle, Shirley Young and Linda (Roy) Phillips; brother, Troy “Red” (Sue) Sanford; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 18, 2023 at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home beginning at 12:00. Visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00. Private burial will be held at Walker Memorial Gardens. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Robert W. Sanford Memorial Fire Academy Fund, located at Pinnacle Bank.
