Whereas God in His infinite wisdom has deemed it necessary to call from our midst His servant, Robert Anthony “Cab” Collins, Jr. we bow in humble submission to his will and pause to reflect upon his life, death, and resurrection of our loved one.
We recall the account of his birth to the late Robert, Sr. and Julia Johnson Collins. Robert Anthony “Cab” Collins, Jr. was born March 19, 1945 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This courageous servant departed this life Friday, December 20, 2024.
He attended the Tuscaloosa Schools, beginning with the Martin Luther Institute, where he completed Pre-School by the Board of Colored Missions of the American Lutheran Church for admission to the Elementary Grades.
He was a graduate of Druid High School (1963) and received a Bachelor of Science in Recreation from Arkansas AM&N now the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Robert began his career working for the Boy Scouts of America in Little Rock, Arkansas; The Boys Club in Gary, Indiana; Union Liquors as a Salesman, Chicago, Illinois; and the most rewarding of all as a Classroom Assistant for Special Education in the Birmingham City Schools.
He also served his country in the United States Navy as an Able Seaman stationed at the U. S. Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, Virginia.
He was a member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church, Birmingham, Alabama where he attended faithfully until illness prevented him from attending in late 2019.
A witty, easy-going and humorous individual, Robert led a simple life. He was a connoisseur of fine wines. A lover of music, he cherished his vast music collection; and loved playing cards and chess.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Dr. Sharon A. Byrd Collins of Huntsville, Alabama; son, Anthony (Yvette) Collins of Chicago, Illinois; daughter, Natalie Johnson, Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters-in-law, Gail D. Polak and Willa Collins of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
