Robert Alvin KeelRobert A. Keel passed away at his home on April 9, 2024.
Born in Guntersville, AL on January 29, 1947 he grew up in various locations throughout Marshall County.
In 1966, Robert wedded his high school sweetheart Diane and were married 58 years. They had two
precious children – Kimberly and Dewon and two grandchildren – Ethan and Avery. He was a wonderful
husband, father and pawpaw.
Robert was well known for his quick-witted sense of humor and his ability to make anyone laugh or
smile. He was also known as a kind and generous man always willing to give time or lend a helping hand
in any way he could.
As a member of Victory Baptist Church in Guntersville, he was an avid supporter of their Vacation Bible
School program, participated in all church events and was considered the church chef.
Robert began his career working at Ashburn & Gray Construction and Paving Company then moved to
Marshall County School District as Delivery/Painter. Became the owner/operator of Rob’s BBQ and finally
retired after 15 years as owner/operator of Keel’s Painting.
He had a passion for hunting and fishing and attending car races. He also loved watching college football,
baseball and basketball on TV. He was in the first Professional Bass Club in Guntersville and won several
tournaments. He later developed a love for travel and took his wife through many European countries.
He was initiated in Marshall Masonic Lodge 209 on July 9, 1985, passed Fellowcraft on Sept 17, 1985,
raised to Master Mason on Oct 15, 1985. He filled every chair station and was elected to Worshipful
Master twice (1991 & 2003) and served as Secretary for 18 years. He received his 25-year pin on Oct 22,
2010 and became a perpetual member of Marshall Lodge 209 F&AM on Aug 4, 2005.
He was also in the Marshall Shrine Club for many years where he worked on every fish fry and belonged
to the Motor Corp which drove the little yellow cars in the parades.
Robert was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He helped chair their upcoming Winter
Fest Gospel Singing event. He had already secured several renowned Gospel Singing Groups for the
activities being held this September. He always served as the check out clerk for the yard sales and quick
to help out in anything that went on.
Robert is survived by his wife Diane, son Rob Dewon (Pam), grandson Ethan and granddaughter Avery.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Keel Green, parents C.W. and Dicie Keel and brother
Edward Keel.
There will be a Memorial Service at Victory Baptist Church on Saturday April 13, 2024 with last rites at
Panquin Cemetery in Grant.
