Mrs. Robbie Shrader  Robbie Shrader (Hughes), 91, of Hollywood, Alabama died at Rosewood Assisted Living in Scottsboro, Alabama on January 27, 2024.

She was born in Geraldine, Alabama in 1932 to Robert and Jane Hughes. Her father died when she was 3 years old, and she and her two brothers helped their mother to work their small farm in Dekalb County. After graduating from Geraldine High School, she trained as a hair dresser and opened her own shop with a friend. She married George Shrader in 1967 and became a stay-at-home mother, raising two children.

She had a lifelong love of music. She started saving her money as a child, and, by age 16 she bought a used piano. She taught herself to play by finding the correct notes in the church hymnals. For the rest of her life she would play piano in church, the last time being at Hollywood Baptist Church. That piano remained her most prized possession. Some of our fondest memories of her are watching her play hymns on that antique piano in our living room.

Robbie will always be remembered for her love of music, animals, and all growing things. However, she will always be best remembered for her love of children. She delighted in her own two children, making up games and playing right alongside them. Her childlike spirit drew all children to her.

She was always quick to laugh and tease, and was always the life of any party. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother, and she will be missed every day. However, we rejoice in knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven.

Robbie is preceded in death by her husband George Shrader, and her brothers Tom and Erby Hughes. She is survived by her son Richard Shrader, her daughter Cathy (Chris) Harrell, and her grandson Ryan Harrell.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Bro. Brandon Gamble officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until time of service. Burial will follow at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens.
