ATHENS-The Athens Police made an arrest of a suspect on Saturday, January 2 and charged the man with First Degree Robbery.

Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement on the arrest:

“On Saturday night around 10:00 the police department received a call from the clerk at Bob’s Quick Stop on Brownsferry Street. The clerk told officers he was locking up the store when a white male approached him with a pistol and demanded money. The male was wearing a red bandanna over his face. The clerk told the man he didn’t have any money. The man then took several cigars from the counter. The clerk told the man he knew who he was and he needed to put the cigars back before he called the police. The man dropped the cigars and left the store running south. The clerk then left the store and followed the suspect to a house south of the store. Before he got to the residence he heard three shots. He left and returned to the store and contacted the police department.
Before officers received the call of the robbery the police department had received a call of a fight with shots fired on Lucasferry Road. Officer Bobby Hand located the disturbance on Lucasferry Road. When the description of the suspect in the robbery was dispatched Hand was able to take the suspect into custody without incident.
Allen Jacob Alviso was arrested and charged with one count of robbery 1st degree. He transported to the police department where he was booked and transferred to the county jail.”
