Rita Mitchell Hargett – Obituary

Rita Mitchell Hargett, 57, of Belgreen, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, at home.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1957, in Sheffield, Alabama, to Benjamin R. and Virginia J. Mitchell. She lived her entire life in Franklin County and was a member of Frankfort Missionary Baptist Church. She was the office manager at the Red Bay News for many years in addition to being a homemaker, loving wife, and caring mother.

Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville, Alabama. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Roger Akers and Brother Andy Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhill-Ezzell Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin R. Mitchell.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Randy H. Hargett, of Belgreen, Alabama; son, D. Brent Hargett and wife, Kristin, of Montgomery, Alabama; daughter, Kelli P. Hargett, and fiancé, Craig Higgins, of Hoover, Alabama; mother, Virginia Mitchell McCalmon, and husband, Gene, of Belgreen, Alabama; and brother, Byron R. Mitchell, of Belgreen, Alabama.

Pallbearers will be Stewart Blackburn, Danny Hacker, Johnny Jones, Tommy Jones, Roger Jones, and Keith Ledbetter.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, Dr. James A. Posey III, and staff at UAB Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society ‘s Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge , 1104 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205-7001.
