Rita Ann Woods Coker, age 90, of Huntsville, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2023, surrounded by her beloved husband and her loving daughter. Rita married the love of her life, Laddie Coker, and they enjoyed a wonderful life together for 71years. She was born and raised in Brookhaven, Mississippi. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as an accomplished artist and author who wrote multiple books that have impacted the lives of many people.

Rita was first and foremost a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was a passionate teacher of God’s Word. She started the first Ladies Bible Study at Whitesburg Baptist Church and taught the class for 50 years. Rita and Laddie were much loved teachers of Married Couple’s Sunday School Classes of all ages for many years at Whitesburg. Rita also taught in the Singles Department. She was revered as a woman of prayer. Her heart and her home were always open to those who desired wise and godly counsel. She discipled and mentored many young women who will forever be grateful for her investment in their lives.

Rita is survived by her husband, Laddie Russell Coker; daughter, Debbie Stinson Owens and her husband, Keith; and grandson, James Garrett Stinson. She is predeceased by her granddaughter, Tiffany Leigh Stinson and her parents, Carroll E. and Grace Clark Woods.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2023, in the Chapel of Whitesburg Baptist Church South Campus, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. with burial at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Whitesburg Baptist Church Women’s Ministry in Rita’s honor.
