Richard Stanton Harris, II, MD, 75, passed away February 7, 2023, at his home after a long illness. He was born November 5, 1947, to Ramon Stanton Harris (10/2/26-5/28/16) and Ruthie Chatmon Harris (3/12/27-8/14/90) in Cleveland, Ohio, the eldest of three. He graduated from Erasmus Hall High School, NYC, in 1965, attended Fisk University and Meharry Medical College, class of 1974. He truly cherished his 42-year career as an OB/GYN, which began at Huntsville Hospital in 1978. In addition to his private practice, he was also an Assistant Professor with UAB/Huntsville Medical School for many years. During his career he served on the Huntsville Civic Center Board and the Alabama Medical Licensure Commission.
Richard enjoyed a full, adventurous life that included deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snow skiing, and extensive travel. A lifelong lover of sports, he played basketball in college, competed in triathlons, was a part-owner of the Huntsville Stars baseball team, the Huntsville Lasers basketball team, and the Huntsville Blast hockey team. His true passions were golf and playing cards. Richard was always up for a laugh, loved telling stories, was an avid reader, and really enjoyed a bowl of ice cream. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Ellen; his two children, Traci Harris Sinitiere (Michael), Richard Stanton Harris, III (Mandy), stepdaughter, Ashlyn Knaur Partridge (Boyd), and his adopted daughter, Ashley Harris Love; his two sisters, Dr. Sandra Harris Corrado (Michael) and Major (ret) Frances Hodges; six grandchildren, Ivy, Lia and Bea Sinitiere, Jada and Issac Harris, Keira Harbin (Mandy) and Schuyler Partridge; his nephew, Michael Corrado; nieces, Kelli Corrado, Kristi Milano, Sydney, Morgan and Layla Hodges; and other relatives.
