Richard Reynolds Cannon, 89 of Huntsville, AL, passed over to meet his Lord on October 1, 2024.
Dick was born January 29th, 1935 in Battle Creek Michigan to Dr. George N. and Lila (Reynolds) Cannon. He married Cornelia Anne McMurphy (Cannon) in 1962 and they lived together in Memphis, TN; Johnson City, TN, and Huntsville, AL. Together they raised three sons.
He leaves as his legacy 3 children, Christopher Todd Cannon (Beth Morphew Cannon), Richard Bradley Cannon (Cindy Jackson Cannon), George William Cannon (Alison Robinson Cannon). His children and grandchildren remember him as an adventurous, fun, joyful, and faithful father. He continued after college playing tennis, downhill skiing, and spending time on the lake with his family. He relished time with his grandchildren: Caroline Anne Cannon, William Reynolds Cannon, Christopher Price Cannon, and Keaton Anne Cannon.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cornelia Anne; brother-in-law, Jack E. Hill, and sister, Eleanor “Ellie” Cannon Hill.
Dick served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, based at Redstone Arsenal, AL in 1960, where he met Anne McMurphy. He was a graduate of Albion College in Albion, MI and a member of the college tennis team. He graduated from the University of Michigan with his D.D.S. After honorable discharge, he graduated with his M.S. in Pediatric Dentistry from University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis, TN. His first Pediatric Dental practice was established in Johnson, City, TN. He joined his graduate school classmate, Dr. Charles R. Hall in Huntsville, AL establishing Hall and Cannon Children’s Dentistry in 1971 – later to become Alabama Pediatric Dental Associates. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church; Rotary Club; North Alabama Dental Society and several other community organizations.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 p.m.
