Richard Paul Burgess, age 65 of Estill Springs, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Bennington, Vermont, on October 1, 1959, to the late Chester Randall and Alberta Mae (Vanorman) Burgess. Richard served his country in the United States Navy before working as an auto mechanic for over twenty-five years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking photographs of wildlife, as well as cheering for the Tennessee Volunteers. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, as well as for his loving devotion to his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rosie Lake. Richard is survived by his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Neval (Hill) Burgess; children, Elizabeth (Jason) Cross, and Karen Burgess; grandchildren, Madison Reed, Morgan Reed, and Amelia Cross; siblings, Jimmy (Scarlett) Burgess, Donna (David) Wright; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Ashley officiating. Interment will follow at New Brick Church Cemetery with Johnny Reed, Marcus Pitman, Jason Cross, Matt Hill, Jason Johnson, and Jack Hill serving as pallbearers.
