Richard “Motormouth” Eugene Calvert, a man known for his generous heart and endless stories, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 28, 2024. Born on July 21, 1941, in Rockdale, Tennessee, to the late Ernest “Jack” Calvert and Leta Gibson Calvert.
Richard, or Motormouth as many called him, lived a life full of hard work. He grew up in tougher times, and Richard learned the value of hard work early on. As a young man, he started driving trucks, a job that would become his lifelong passion. Throughout his career, he drove across the United States, visiting every state except Alaska. While in the Marines he was stationed in Hawaii as well as Okinawa, Japan. Richard never retired from trucking, he never really retired at all, he worked until he could no more. He was a true jack-of-all-trades, Richard could handle automotive work, electrical repairs, plumbing, and more. He loved sharing his knowledge and skills with others, acting as a teacher to many but specifically his children.
Richard had an incredible ability to connect with people. True to his C.B. Handle “Motormouth,” he could strike up a conversation with anyone, making friends wherever he went. He was also the kind of person that would help anyone. Richard would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, over his life he helped many people that were in hard times. Above all, Richard loved his family deeply. His presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his wife: Vicki Cantrell Calvert; children: Richard “Ricky” Eugene Calvert, Jr., Nicky Wayne Calvert, Denny (Leah) Lee Calvert, Joey Don Calvert, Shelia (Daniel) Gaye Carroll, Taye (Zack) Renee Daniels, Madison Renee Calvert, Mason Gage Calvert, Luke Daniel Calvert, Malachi Jacob Calvert, Daniel “Danny” Gerald Chalk (Candace Nolen), Jamie (Quixari) Sharon Ruffin, Pamela Renee McGee, Waylon Shane Cates, and Daniel Floyd Cates; 18 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 bonus grandchildren, special nephew and best friend Gary “Goober” Calvert, and k-9 companions Lulu and Doc.
