Richard Lee Charles, 77, a cherished resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 10, 2024.

A memorial service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, at Heritage Funeral Home, officiated by Brandon Cochran. Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour. Heritage Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements.

Born on February 12, 1947, in Clintwood, Virginia, Richard was the beloved son of the late Fred and Eunice Stanley Charles. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he found faith and community.

Richard had a passion for golf and enjoyed traveling widely with the Tennessee Travelers, often going on cruises and exploring new places. He was a proud sports enthusiast, supporting the University of Michigan Wolverines and the University of Tennessee Volunteers. He also found joy in regular gatherings with friends at the 3 o’clock dinner club. Above all, Richard deeply treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his grandson, Seth. Richard and Judy enjoyed their weekly dinner dates with their beloved friends, Mike and Cathy Weiss and Ron and Sandy Meade.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Judy Lee Anderson Charles; his son, Scott Charles, his sister, Bobbi Jean (James) Davis; and his beloved grandson, Seth Charles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Barbara Charles.
