Richard John Soderbom, age 88, resident of Winchester, TN, passed away February 20, 2022, at Bailey Manor in Winchester. Richard was born June 3, 1933, to the late Lawrence and Anita Soderbom of Bridgewater, MA. Passing before him was his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Soderbom. Richard is survived by his daughter, Beth Simmons, son, David Soderbom and three grandsons, Ben Simmons, Brad Simmons, Ian Soderbom and great granddaughter, Ivy Soderbom. He has four siblings: Nancy Dears of Winchester, TN and Linda McLellan, Carl Soderbom and Martha Becker of Bridgewater, MA. Richard graduated high school in Bridgewater, MA, then graduated from the University of Massachusetts. He later graduated from the University of the South, Sewanee with a Master’s Degree in Biology. Richard joined the Army in 1955 and was stationed at Fort Hood in TX. He was a printer in California after the Army. He returned to MA and married Peggy in Plainfield, MA. They were married for 61 years. They settled in Winchester where Richard was a teacher in Huntsville, Huntland High School and Franklin County High School. While he was at Franklin County High School, Richard sponsored the FOG Club (an outdoor activity club) and the LEO Club. He left teaching to become the manager at the Vocational Rehabilitation Center where he remained until he retired. After Richard and Peggy officially retired, they moved to Lehigh Acres, FL where they enjoyed many happy years. Richard was an active member of the Lions Club. He was granted lifetime membership which is a high honor he was proud of. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 1:00pm at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
