Richard Holt Richard Holt passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Bethany Center for Rehab and Healing in Nashville, TN. He was born in Giles County, Tennessee on April 22, 1934 and departed this life at the age of 90.

Richard was known for being fun loving, good-natured, and easy going. He was a much beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He loved God and family. His home church was Lewter’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, (Ardmore, TN). he later united with New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Canton, OH and was a faithful member. He was employed by the city of Canton, retiring in 1996 and returning to Tennessee.

Richard enlisted in the United States Army and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his time in Korea. He was extremely proud of having served his country. He was a member of the veterans group chosen for an “Angel Flight” to Washington, D.C. in 2018. He described the trip as “first class”, enjoyed visiting the historical monuments and bragged about how the Veterans always took care of him.
Richard’s favorite things to do were spending time with family and friends, taking walks (which he called ‘checking his traps’), listening to-singing the blues, and anything to do with eating purple top field greens. His nephews and nieces will always remember his words to them, ‘Uncle Richard loves you baby.’

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 17th, 2024 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory.
The funeral service will follow at 12:00pm in the chapel of Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory.
The interment will take place at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors on Monday, August 19th, 2024 at 1:00pm.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Jenkins Holt; parents, Milton Sr. and Jane Holt; brothers, Floyd, David Lee, Glen, James Robert, Milton, and Howard; sisters, Vernell Thompson and Janie Mae Sherrell. He is survived by, his daughter. Dr. Trevor J. Holt of Nashville, TN; bonus son; Tony Reynolds of LaVergne, TN; devoted nieces and nephews; Bobby (Rosie) Sherrell, Sadie Jones, Edith Garrison, of Elkton, TN; Barbara (James) Smith of Ardmore, TN; Brenda White of Prospect, TN; devoted cousin; Jo Ann Frierson of Cleveland, OH; devoted friend; Patricia Massey of Canton, OH; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
