Richard “Dick” Crowell – Obituary

A memorial service for Lt. Richard “Dick” Crowell, 69, of Decatur will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at noon at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church with Father Michael MacMahon officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon at the church.

Lt. Crowell, who died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Huntsville Hospital, was born September 17, 1944, in Butler, New York, to William H. Crowell and Minnie Watson Crowell. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in Korea and was a retired police lieutenant in charge of Investigation with the Decatur Police Department. Dick was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a longtime softball coach for Dixie Girls Softball. He was a member of Annunication of the Lord Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Charles Crowell.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly W. Crowell; one son, Kory W. Crowell (Jenna); three daughters, Kelly Armor (Ronnie), Kari Griffith (John) and Klancy Crowell; eight grandchildren, Justin Armor, Kailyn Crowell, Zachary Armor, John Griffith III, Cullen Crowell, Finley Crowell, Kathryn Griffith and Lochlyn Crowell; three sisters, Betty Soules, Ruth Dallas and Mary Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be the Decatur Police Department Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Decatur Police Department and Knights of Columbus.

Memorials may be made to CCC (Committee On Church Cooperation) or The Salvation Army.

Parkway Funeral Home is assisting the family.
