Richard Calloway, 94, passed away from complications of COVID on January 16, 2024. He was born October 13, 1929 in Pontotoc County to Niles and Margaret Calloway. He married Carolyn Gardner in 1957 and they were married for 60 years until her death in 2018. He attended Pontotoc County schools. He was drafted in 1952 to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. He served at Fort Eustis, VA in ship building. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned home. He worked for more than 30 years in the trucking industry; first at Blue Bell, then 30 years at Campbell 66 Express. After retirement from Campbell Express, he worked for Metro Ford transferring vehicles. He was also the caretaker for Springhill Presbyterian Church and cemetery in Saltillo for years.
Richard was a member of Hamasa Shrine Temple Scottish Rite and American Legion. He served as past president of Lee County Shrine Club and was a founding member of the club’s fire brigade. He was also a 32nd degree Mason. He will best be remembered for his love of God, family, and his tireless work ethic.
He is survived by his beloved grandson, Gunther Rankenburg; his daughters, Neida Rankenburg, Nancy Calloway; (Andrew Garrett, Tori and Katie); sister, Clara Jaggers; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Calloway; parents, three brothers, Niles, Al, and Dexter Calloway; and two sisters, Shirley Calloway and Shelby Johnson.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 pm Monday, January 22, 2024 at Lee Memorial Funeral Home. Services are private to the family. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children
