Richard Arden Wygant, age 85, passed away peacefully March 8, 2023. He was born July 19, 1937, to the late Herold and Mildred Wygant in Meadville, PA. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Johnnie Mary (Krauss) Wygant, children Ruth (Jack) Keith, Susan (Michael) Salisbury, and grandchildren Zachary Keith, Sarah (Joseph) Busse, Elora and Elise Salisbury and his sister Rose Ann (Joe) Anisette. Richard was proceeded in death by his Brother Raymond Wygant.
Richard started working in his youth by delivering Meadville, PA newspapers in which he was awarded a trip to Washington DC with a chance to meet President Truman. He then served in the Army from 1957-1961 as a Radar Equipment Foreman for the Nike Missile Program at Ft. Bliss Texas. After his military discharge, he started work at Western Electric telephone company as an installer. He worked for the “Bell” companies for 38 years, culminating his career as an instructor.
Richard enjoyed telling funny stories, singing silly songs, and laughing with everyone. He had a special way of making people feel welcome and special. His hard working, family oriented, and lighthearted approach to life made it easy for him to meet new friends in his world travels. He taught in Asia and then spent his retirement RVing across the US, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and visiting Europe.
Celebration of Life Services will be held April 15, 2023, at 2 pm at the Hampton Cove Funeral Home, Owens Crossroads, Al.
