Bro. Vince, as he was affectionately called by many, was born August 30, 1942 at his home near Dunn, North Carolina. On August 31, 2021, he closed his eyes in his earthly home in Glencoe, Alabama and opened them in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
He served as senior pastor and interim pastor of churches in Texas, Georgia, and Alabama for over 45 years. He also shared the Gospel of Jesus around the world on mission trips in the United States, Australia, Spain, Canary Islands, Nigeria, and Honduras.
Vince is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Verta Whittington, his brothers, Delano and Carl Whittington, Jr. and sister, Edna Vaughn. He is survived by his wife and best friend for almost 59 years, Lynda, his daughters, Teresa (Ken) Blakney and Kristie (Chris) Livingston, his son, Mark (Michele) Whittington, and chosen son, David (Sandra) Fambrough. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Sarah (Justin) Alexander, Rebecca (Stephen) Walker, Noah (Jennifer) Whittington, Grace Whittington, Melody Whittington, Jonathan Williams, Matthew Livingston, and two great grandchildren, Titus and Haddon Alexander. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry, Oliver, and Don Whittington, and sisters, Rena McLamb and Jackie Bass, along with many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at First Baptist Church of Glencoe on Friday, September 3 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Worship celebration will be held at FBC Glencoe on Saturday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m. with a graveside service to follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Officiating ministers will be Rev. Donny Yarbrough, Rev. Mark Whittington, and Rev. Justin Alexander. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law and grandsons. Social distancing and masks are recommended.
Donations in memory of Rev. Vince Whittington may be made to the Annie Armstrong Offering for North American Missions or the Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions at any Southern Baptist Church.
