FLORENCE-Mayor Steve Holt challenged all organizations, businesses, and residents to partner this year on the CITYWIDE CLEAN-UP EFFORT. On Saturday, March 24 they did just that.
Well over 100 dedicated people of the Shoals showed up at McFarland Park parking lot 8:00 a.m. to get gloves, trash bags and trash grippers to clean up the roadsides in and around Florence. Several environmental organizations were on hand to help. Tennessee River Keepers, Living Lands & Waters, Tennessee Valley Authority as well as Keep The Shoals Beautiful were on hand to team up with volunteers to clean up the city and riverside.
Living Lands & Waters provided six flat bottom boats to help clean up the shores of the Tennessee River and Pickwick Lake. Boats filled with children and adults hauled in trash from the shores of the river to be collected and disposed of by Florence City workers.
Trash was collected and disposed of and everyone enjoyed the fellowship and sense of accomplishment of a job well done…leaving Florence and the banks of the Tennessee River cleaner than before.
QCDNews was on hand to capture the event in photos and we present them to you here:
