Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, are the Top Jobs in October

MONTGOMERY – Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in October 2024, there were 79,656 job ads posted in Alabama, representing a monthly increase of 0.6%.

 

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, and Fast Food and Counter Workers with 13,152 ads placed for those occupations in October.

 

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

 

In October 2024, there were 32,617 total job ads with salaries, including 9,238 jobs ads with salaries of $70,000 and above; 9,206 jobs ads with salaries in the $35-49,000 range; 5,747 jobs ads with salaries in the $50-69,000 range, and 8,426 jobs ads with salaries less than $35,000.

 

The top two employers posting the most online ads in October were Walmart with 1,876 ads and Huntsville Hospital with 975 ads. The rest of the top 10 were: UAB Medicine (824), USA Health (476), Auburn University (474), The University of Alabama at Birmingham (462), Regions Financial (441), Jack’s Family Restaurants (429), Baptist Health (416), and CVS Health (401).

 

This month’s HWOL Occupation Focus is Software Developers. Those employed in this occupation research, design, and develop computer and network software or specialized utility programs. They may also work with computer hardware engineers to integrate hardware and software systems and develop specifications and performance requirements or maintain databases within an application area, working individually or coordinating database development as part of a team. Typically, employees in these occupations usually need a four-year bachelor’s degree, but some do not.  This occupation may also require several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training. The advertised median salary for Software Developers in Alabama is $115,584. This occupation has 1,305 Annual Total Openings in Alabama.
