Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, are the Top Jobs in January

MONTGOMERY - Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Workforce’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in January 2025, there were 82,508 job ads posted in Alabama, representing a monthly increase of 14.8%.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, and Fast Food and Counter Workers with 11,699 ads placed for those occupations in January.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

In January 2025, there were 27,465 total job ads with salaries, including 8,000 jobs ads with salaries of $70,000 and above; 7,176 jobs ads with salaries in the $35-49,000 range; 4,659 jobs ads with salaries in the $50-69,000 range, and 7,630jobs ads with salaries less than $35,000.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in January 2025 were Huntsville Hospital with 1,041 ads and UAB Medicine with 799 ads.  The rest of the top 10 were:  Taco Bell (736), Walmart (713), Jack’s Family Restaurants (519), Domino’s Pizza (475), Baptist Health (386), Circle K (329) , Arby’s (329), and Walgreens with 327 ads.

This month’s HWOL Occupation Focus is Carpenters. Those employed in this occupation Construct, erect, install, or repair structures and fixtures made of wood and comparable materials, such as concrete forms; building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters; and wood stairways, window and door frames, and hardwood floors. They may also install cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation. Includes brattice builders who build doors or brattices (ventilation walls or partitions) in underground passageways. Typically, employees in these occupations usually need anywhere from a few months to one year of working with experienced employees. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations. The advertised median salary for Carpenters in Alabama is $44,928.
