Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers are the Top Jobs in January

MONTGOMERY – Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in January 2024, there were 80,847 job ads posted in Alabama.

 

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Fast Food and Counter Workers, Sales Reps, Wholesale & Manufacturing, Exc. Technical & Scientific Products, with 13,837 ads placed for those occupations in January.

 

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

 

In January 2024, there were 30,523 total job ads with salaries, including 9,372 jobs ads with salaries of $60,000 and above; 3,568 jobs ads with salaries in the $48-60,000 range; 9,948 jobs ads with salaries in the $32-48,000 range, and 7,635 jobs ads with salaries less than $32,000.

 

The top two employers posting the most online ads in December were Walmart with 1,050 ads and UAB Medicine with 1,023 ads. The rest of the top 10 were: Huntsville Hospital (973), The University of Alabama at Birmingham (727), Baptist Health (504), Cracker Barrel (481), USA Health (473), Grandview Medical Center (438), The University of Alabama (406), and Auburn University (379).

 

This month’s HWOL Occupation Focus is Industrial Machinery Mechanics. Those employed in this occupation repair, install, adjust, or maintain industrial production and processing machinery or refinery and pipeline distribution systems or they install, dismantle, or move machinery and heavy equipment according to plans. They may also operate newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs. Typically, employees in these occupations usually need two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. The advertised median salary for Industrial Machinery Mechanics in Alabama is $52,096. This occupation has 1,615 Annual Total Openings in Alabama.
