FLORENCE-The City of Florence Beautification Board and Tree Commission will host the 28th Annual Urban Forestry and Horticulture Conference, themed Creating Sustainable Ecosystems: A Bubble of Life, on March 7, 2025. The event will feature expert guest speakers from across the Southeast who will cover a variety of sustainability topics, including managing native plants and trees, the importance of bees, herbalism, birding, shared habitat in landscape design, and more.
The conference will take place at Cross Point Church of Christ in Florence, AL. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m., and the conference will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available through The University of North Alabama’s Education and Research In-Service Center.
In addition to the informative sessions, attendees will have the chance to win valuable door prizes and explore ideas and products from local vendors. Lunch for registered attendees will be provided, sponsored in part by Tri-Green Equipment. Monica Underwood of Tri-Green Equipment notes that the Alabama Cattleman’s Association will prepare the meal on-site. “Anyone who enjoys gardening, landscaping, or outdoor activities will find value in the knowledge shared at this conference,” says Kristin Seabol, Chair of the Florence Beautification Board. “This is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals while learning about sustainable practices that can benefit our environment.” Seabol also noted that this year’s conference has been moved from October to March to align with the beginning of the growing season and to accommodate vendor schedules.
Registration is now open online HERE, where attendees can also find a printable registration form for mailing. The cost for the conference is $50.
In conjunction with the conference, the Florence Tree Commission will offer a Pesticide Recertification Class on March 6, also at Cross Point Church of Christ, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Online registration is available at the same website link. The cost is $50.
