Regina "Jeanie" Rose Hays Regina “Jeanie” Rose Hays, 67, of Holly Pond, Alabama, passed away on December 30, 2021. Jeanie was born to Alton William and Rosemary Schaefer Sandlin on June 19, 1954, in Cullman County, Alabama.

Jeanie enjoyed quilting and was an active member of the Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild. Her fellowship with ladies of the Quilt Guild brought her much joy. She was an incredibly talented quilter and gifted a quilt that was customized specifically for each of her children and grandchildren.

Jeanie was widely known for her Christmas cookies. With a family recipe she would make hundreds of meticulously decorated cookies each season and enjoyed providing many families and friends with their own platter.

Jeanie had recently been making quilts and donating them to others undergoing cancer treatments as well as crafting and providing 500 handmade mask to Children’s Hospital.

Jeanie dedicated much of her life providing care to those she loved. With her servant’s heart, she deeply impacted the recipients of her care. Her grandchildren will forever know her endless love.

With her passing Jeanie leaves a legacy of kindness and compassion.

Jeanie is preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Sandlin; and sister, Rosemary Chaney.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Wayne Hays; sons, Jeremy (Kelly) Hays, Ryan (Meredith) Hays; grandchildren, Tristan Ziannis, Mason Hays, Cidney Hays, Aiden Hays, Maci Rae Hays; great-grandchild, Parker Russell; brothers, Bill (Debbie) Sandlin, Pete Sandlin, Danny Sandlin, Paul Sandlin; sisters, Celestine Sally (Matthew) Chappell, Mary Alice Sandlin; uncle, Gerry (Barbara) Sandlin; aunt, Ruth Roberson; mother-in-law, Mary Hays; sister-in-law, Loretta Goodlett; a host of nieces and nephews; many close friends; her Nimble Thimble sisters; and her Sacred Heart family.

A viewing will be held for Mrs. Hays from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church, with a Rosary following at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will also be held at the church on Wednesday morning, January 5, 2022, at 10 a.m., with burial following in New Hope #2 Cemetery in Holly Pond, Alabama. Mason Hays, Aiden Hays, Michael Phillips, Vince Lord, Cory Goodlett, and Cody Sandlin will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Jeanie to St. Vincent De Paul or to Children’s Hospital of Birmingham.
