Reggie Lynn Barnett, 80, of Orange Beach, Alabama and Perdido Key, Florida passed away July 26, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born to Lyle and Lucille Barnett of Medina, Tennessee on April 21, 1944, in Jackson, Tennessee. For 58 years he was happily married to his high school sweetheart, Patricia Drake Barnett. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UT Knoxville and a professional license in Electrical Engineering, Reggie worked his entire career until retirement in the power industry for both Georgia Power Company and TVA. Reggie was president of The Jaycees in Athens, GA and was a member of The Lions Club in Humboldt, TN. For many years, he served as President of the Board of Directors for the TVA Western Employees Credit Union in Jackson, TN. Reggie proudly served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church and Englewood Baptist Church both in Jackson, TN.
In younger years Reggie played football and basketball at North Side High School then he continued to play basketball during his early college years at UT Martin. Throughout his life golfing, gardening, boating and working around the home were some of his favorite pastimes. Reggie was also very active in supporting his children and grandchildren throughout their lives in their many activities and endeavors. During the last years of his life, Reggie was very passionate about sharing Jesus with everyone he met. He always wanted strangers and loved ones alike to know the importance of “walking with Jesus” and never left the house without his hat and suspenders adorned with that very phrase.
Reggie was preceded in death by his infant daughter Lori Lynn Barnett, parents Lyle and Lucille Barnett, parents-in-law Jack and Dorothy Drake, and brother-in-law Alan Drake.
Reggie is survived by his wife Pat Barnett, children Kelly (Troy) Hornbeak, and Bradley Barnett, grandchildren Ashley and Brooklyn Hornbeak, brother Jimmy (Etta) Barnett, brother-in-law John (Patti) Drake and Dan (Heidi) Drake, and nieces & nephews.
SERVICES: A graveside service for the family will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Highland Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life come and go gathering will be held beginning at 3:00 p.m. and continuing until 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Ranch 381 Highway 45 W., Three-Way, TN 38343.
An additional Celebration of Life Service will be held 4:00 pm August 28, 2024, at Canal Road Baptist Church in Orange Beach, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer Association in honor of Reggie Lynn Barnett.
