RED BAY-On Wednesday, September 26 a Public Hearing was held at Red Bay City Hall to begin the grant process for the Economic Developement Grant that the City of Red Bay has requested the meeting was well attended.
Rep Johnny Mack Morrow read a statement to the attendees of the meeting:
“For the last twenty-eight years I have worked very hard as a member of the Alabama Legislature to bring about economic development to the state of Alabama and HD18. I am very proud that in my very first term as a Legislator, I was a co-sponsor for Governor Folsom ‘s incentive package that landed the Mercedes auto plant in Alabama. Tens of thousands of people are now employed within the automobile industry in Alabama because of this legislation. I was instrumental in securing the funding for the completion of the ARC Corridor V or Highway 24. Throughout my twenty-eight years as a member of the Alabama Legislature I have helped secure ADECA funding for numerous projects for HD18 and for Red Bay. I believe without question that economic development, for a city or region, is like a rising tide it raises all the ships in the harbor.
An application is to be submitted by the city of Red Bay, at a future date, to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs(ADECA) for a Community Development Block Grant-ED. The application, when it is submitted, will be for the purpose of providing needed sewer infrastructure, roadway improvements and drainage work to facilitate Girard Holdings Alabama, LLC’s construction of a new assembly plant at Red Bay’s West Franklin Regional Industrial Park.
As a member of the Alabama Legislature job growth and economic development has always been and will continue to be a top priority of mine. As a member of the Alabama Legislature I fully endorse and support the funding of this project. As a citizen of the Red Bay Area, I enthusiastically endorse and support the funding of this project. It will provide badly needed jobs for our state and for Northwest
Alabama. I look forward to the application being submitted and as a member of the Alabama Legislature I will help expedite this $250,000 grant so that construction can begin as soon as possible. Working together we can accomplish so much!”
