THE SHOALS-The Food Bank of North Alabama recently contracted with the Northwest AL RC&D to purchase and retrofit 2 Eco Cold Storage Trailers.
The Eco Cold Storage Trailers are refrigerated using a COOLBOT system to achieve a temperature as low as 32˚ F. The Food Bank of North Alabama will use these Eco Cold Storage Trailers to transport donated food from local businesses to the food bank’s feeding centers. Food Bank of North Alabama Executive Director Kathryn Strickland said, “All of us here at the Food Bank could not be more appreciative of the incredible generosity, not only from RC&D but the CCHS students who applied skills they learned in class for such a meaningful purpose.” Strickland also said this project is a “testament to the fact that it takes a village, and together we can solve hunger.”
RC&D, with the help of Colbert County High School FFA, completed the retrofit and delivered the trailers to the Food Bank June 2016. RC&D Executive Director Charlie Meek extended thanks to Jeff McKinney and the CCHS students: “If it were not for their efforts and professionalism, deadlines would not have been met.” Meek also said, “I’m confident the students will remember the project for the rest of their life.”
