Raymond Neal Mitchell, age 86 of Winchester, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at his residence. He was born on July 7, 1936, in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Ollie Dillard and Margaret Foster Mitchell. He graduated from Central High School, class of 1954. In his youth, he was one of the few amateur steeplechase jockeys in the United States. He was very proud of the many victories he achieved throughout the South. He was owner of Broker’s Equity, Raymond N. Mitchell and Associates, and the Best Holiday Trav-L Park of Marion, Arkansas. Raymond was a member of Estill Springs Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of twenty-seven years, Betty Jo Cargile Mitchell; step-daughter, Serena Smith Lindley; son, Raymond N. Mitchell Jr; grandson, Specialist Raymond N. Mitchell III and brother, Henry Mitchell. Raymond is survived by his wife of forty years, Joyce Blair Mitchell; step-daughter, Karen Smith Coker; daughter, Angela (Perry) Freeman; and grandchildren, David Lindley, Nicole Lindley (Wes) Durham, Jared (Jordan) Lindley, Caroline Elizabeth Mitchell, Perry Alexander Freeman, Olivia Abbigail Freeman, and Sophia Smith Coker. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held from 12-2pm on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Woodfin Funeral Home, Smyrna Chapel.
