Ray Wilson Gibson – Obituary

Ray Wilson Gibson, 77, retired employee of Columbia Gulf, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at his home on Tindell Lane.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Danny Ray Jones officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 11:00 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born January 26, 1940, in Columbia, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Gibson and the late Geneva Elizabeth Demastus Gibson. He was a graduate of Culleoka High School and had attended Middle Tennessee State University. Mr. Gibson had a passion for anything with a motor, but was especially fond of antique cars. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife whom he married March 20, 1970, Wanda Faye Turner Gibson of Columbia; special nieces and nephews, Carol (Ronnie) Smith, Sandy (William) Workman, Patricia (Scott) Galpin, Lori Henson (Bruce) Odom, Tony Henson, Jason (Crystal) Osborne, Matthew Osborne, Katherine Galpin, Robert Harris Galpin, Mary Grace Galpin, Mason Odom, Ruthie Odom, Caleb Osborne, Grady Osborne, Gracen Osborne; brother-in-law, Robert Turner; and sisters-in-law, Thelma Jones, Norma (Terry) Mitchell, and Mary Wilson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Ruth Gibson Norton.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Charles Ball, Dr. Houston Jameson, Dr. Robert Bain, Tommy Logue, Mattie McIntyre, Wayne Goins, Pete Lovell, Ronnie Smith, Bruce Odom, Compassus Home Care, and all the friends and family who visited during his illness.
