Ray Humphries – Obituary

Ray Humphries, 84, of Joppa, a longtime minister in the Ryan, Hulaco area died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the home of his son, Grant Humphries, who had been assisting in his caregiving during his father’s illness.

Mr. Humphries was born March 1, 1929 and raised in the Morgan County community of Hulaco. He was the son of Aubrey and Ethel Earwood Humphries. He graduated high school and college and served his country in the United States Army/National Guard. He and the former Joan Briscoe were married 66 years. He loved fox hunting and raising cattle.

His life was used for preaching the gospel. During his carrier as a minister, he served as minister at Austinville Church of Christ, Decatur and was current minister at the Holly Pond Church of Christ.

Brother Ray is survived by his wife, Joan Humphries of Hulaco; a son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Lorrie Humphries of Hulaco; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nina and Doug Stallings of Mobile and Susan and Barry Falconer of Saint Louis, Missouri; seven grandchildren and spouses, Jason Patterson, Josh McCutcheon (Kattie), Brooke Polk (Tim), Lindsey Stallings, Dana McCutcheon, Aubrey Humphries and William Ray Humphries II; seven great-grandchildren, Emma Patterson, Thomas Patterson, Ellie McCutcheon, Caroline McCutcheon, Tatum Polk, Andrew McCutcheon and Tucker Polk; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Margaret Humphries of Florence.

Funeral service will be Sunday, September 29, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Hebron Church of Christ. Officiating ministers will be Brother Charles Clingman, Brother Jerry Humphries, Brother Ronald Earwood, Brother Russ Whisenant and Brother Brad Howard, graveside committal. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.

Pallbearers will be William Ray Humphries II, Josh McCutcheon, Jason Patterson, Tim Polk, Terry Startley and Phillip Whisenant.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. also on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Hebron Church of Christ.
