Mr. Ray D. Owen, age 85 of Lacey’s Spring the Morgan City area, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Whitesburg Gardens Rehab Center in Huntsville.
Mr. Owen was born on April 20, 1933 in Decatur to Melvin “Buster” J.P. Owen & Opal Vonda Lamons Owen. He was married to the late Alverene Smallwood Owen who passes on June 21, 2016. He retired from Chrysler as a Maintenance Supervisor. He enjoyed drag racing, Nascar and working in the wrecker & towing business.
He was a member of Rescue United Methodist Church.
Ray is survived by his son, W. Ray Owen; brothers & sisters-in-law, James D. “Cooter” Owen & Doris, Melvin A. Owen & Linda; sisters & brother-in-law, LaQuita Wray, Janice Bradford & Don; host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Melvin “Buster” J.P. Owen & Opal Vonda Lamons Owen; wife, Alverene Smallwood Owen.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2019 at Rescue United Methodist Church with Bro. Frankie Flack & Bro. Jared Andrews, officiating. Burial will be in Rescue Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Keith Wray, Gregg Wray, Steven Wray, Austin Wray, David Flack & David Mangrum.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2019 at Rescue United Methodist Church.
