F.11.03.23 Rauney Leroy Mitchell.jpg Rauney Leroy Mitchell passed peacefully on October 17, 2023. He was born August 15, 1933, in Sheffield, Alabama, to Leonard D. Mitchell and Naomi (Grissom) Mitchell.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Wanda Jackson Mitchell; brother, William Mitchell and wife, Joyce, of Colbert Height AL; grandson, Rauney James Mitchell and great-grandson, Peyton James Mitchell of Marineland, FL; daughter-in-law, Judith M. Parton of Georgia; and son, Tim Mitchell of Huntsville AL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Naomi Mitchell; son, Art Mitchell; sisters, Kathleen Gibbs and Jane Carpenter; and brothers, Terry Mitchell and LD Mitchell.

Raun graduated from the University of Alabama in 1969 and was a proud lifelong Alabama Football fan. (Roll Tide Roll, Papaw!) He retired from IBM as an Executive Graphic Designer. He was a very talented watercolor artist and this translated into his career. Raun’s IBM career started with the Apollo Space program, which included designing Apollo mission patches. He received many accolades from Apollo flight teams for his artwork, including being recognized at the Goddard Memorial Dinner in Washington, DC.

Arrangements will be provided by Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia Alabama. Graveside family funeral services will be held Saturday November 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Piney Grove Cemetery, New Bethel, Colbert County, Alabama. Bro. Davy Kincaid of Calvary Baptist Church, Tuscumbia, will officiate.
