It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ramona Bates Gray, 58, of Woodville on October 8, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Jackson County March 23, 1965 to the late Raymon & Frances Wells Bates.
Ramona was a 1983 graduate of Woodville High School. She loved her family with all of her heart and spending time with them was the highlight of her life.
Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” Ramona’s life’s work was in service to God and those that she loved. She was a selfless person who assisted many family members and friends through difficult situations, provided care to those who were unwell, helped to raise many children, and was always there to help others in their time of need.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 12 pm in the Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel with Leon Venerable officiating. Burial will follow at Cemetery in Gurley.
Ramona is survived by her husband, Curtis “Bud” Gray, a daughter, Caris Lambert and husband, Brandon of Woodville. A granddaughter, Lily Lambert of Woodville. Siblings Teresa Hooper of Scottsboro, Eddie Bates of Scottsboro, Rebecca Wood and husband, Don of Dunn, NC, Melissa Bates of Scottsboro and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home.
