Rae Evelyn Deaton Ginn, 82, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023 at her home. She was born in Dennis, MS to Arthur Thomas and Reba Mae Yarber Deaton. For many years, she worked as a seamstress, making her husband and sons clothing as well as teaching pre-school children. She faithfully served as music leader, choir director, pianist, church secretary and any other role needed in her church. Rae also put her basketball knowledge and skills to work as an assistant coach to her husband, Jerry. Her diverse talents also found her in the kitchen where she baked and decorated many cakes for family and friends over the years. In her most recent years, she was well known for selling Avon products. Rae Evelyn was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 20, 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Belmont, MS with Bro. Jerry Ginn and Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Clark Ginn; five sons, Robert Ginn (Jennifer), Randy Ginn (Rhonda), Jon Ginn (Kelly), Jason Ginn (Sarah) and Micah Ginn (Meta); thirteen grandchildren, Asher Ginn, Levi Ginn Andrew Ginn (Sadie), Jordan McCoy (Logan), Rachel Ginn, Caleb Ginn, Jacob Ginn (Hunter Cate), Tristan Lowry, Holden Ginn, Tom Shelby, Micah “JoJo” Ginn, Jr., Gayle Ginn and Mimi Ginn; great-grandchildren, Sheperd Ginn , Greta Ginn and Laney McCoy and two brothers, Gary Deaton (Martha) and Wayne Deaton (Linda).
She was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter, Rebecca Kate Ginn and her younger brother, Charles Arthur Deaton.
Pallbearers will be Robert Ginn, Randy Ginn, Jon Ginn, Jason Ginn, Micah Ginn and Davy Ginn. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Old Union Baptist Church, 51 CR 37, Belmont, MS 38827.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 20, 1-3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Belmont, MS.
