Rachel Marie Brooks – Obituary

Rachel Marie Brooks, recently of Jacksonville, Florida, passed peacefully on March 21, 2016, under the care of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.

Marie was born and raised in Waynesboro, Tennessee, but quickly moved to Miami, Florida, in 1942 when she married. She is predeceased by her father and mother, William T. and Ethel Lee Pitts Pope, by her husband, James Albert (Bud) Brooks and by all ten of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her two sons, Ron and wife, Donna Jeanne, of Jacksonville, Florida and Gary and wife, Barbara, of Hanover, OH; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of South Miami, where she taught Sunday school classes and volunteered her services. She was a wonderful woman of God, faithful, obedient and caring. When she moved to Jacksonville in 2003, she became a member of Fleming Island Baptist Church in Orange Park, Florida.

In addition to being a faithful wife and loving mother, Marie had an outstanding career with Marshall Field Enterprises, publishers of Work Book Encyclopedia. When she retired in 1982, she was a Regional Manager over south Florida and the Bahamas, with several hundred representatives and managers reporting to her. She thoroughly loved being a “World Booker”.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, March 26, 2016 at the Phillips Cemetery in Waynesboro, Tennessee. Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County is assisting the family. Visitation will be thirty minutes before the service at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY, 10001.
