R. L. Townsend, 93, of Middleton, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at his home in Middleton, TN.
He was born Friday, January 10, 1930, to Rufus William and Myrtle Beatrice Foster Townsend in Roger Springs, TN. On December 24, 1955, he married Peggy Townsend (d. 2019). Mr. Townsend was self-employed doing HVAC work and he also worked for Armira, Wheeler’s Appliances, and Built-Rite in Ripley, MS. He attended Roger Springs Church of Christ AND Was a graduate of Whiteville Vocational Tech with a HVAC/Electricians degree. He lived all of his life in Hardeman County, TN.
Mr. Townsend is survived by his daughter, Judy Sides(Tony) of Middleton, TN; three sons, James Townsend(Michelle) of Walnut, MS, Jerry Townsend of Middleton, TN, and Jimmy Townsend(Tammey) of Middleton, TN; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Townsend of Middleton, TN; a sister, Rosie Toms of Middleton, TN; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Beavers(William), Jeanie Smith(David), Christopher Sides(Lindsey), J.R. Townsend(Heather), Casey Townsend(Jennifer), Jimmy Townsend, Kristen Dyer(Terry), and Brittany Townsend; and nineteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a son, Roger Dale Townsend; a daughter, Patricia Townsend; a sister, Christine Taylor; and three brothers, Buck, William, and Vester Townsend.
