Rev. R. J. Sedberry age 97 of Silerton, TN passed away Friday April 3, 2015 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born in Buena Vista, TN, raised in Hollow Rock, and graduated from Central High School in Bruceton. He also was a graduate of Union University and the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. He was a graduate of The New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary after attending 3 years.
He pastored churches in Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisiana, Ohio, and Tennessee. His Tennessee pastorates were: Leawood Baptist, Memphis, First Baptist Church, Whiteville, Bethlehem Baptist, Whiteville and Westover Baptist, Jackson. His first pastorate in the ministry was Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Morris Chapel, TN. His last pastorate was Chestnut St. Baptist Church in Wadsworth, Ohio. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Henderson, TN.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Norma Jean Siler Sedberry of Silerton, TN; a son, Jimmie Jarrett Sedberry (Mary) of Henderson; a daughter, Joyce Sedberry Barker (Jerry) of Humboldt; a granddaughter, Jessica Barker Seward (Will) of Humboldt; three grandsons, Jason Barker (Mary Elizabeth) of Humboldt, Jimmie Jarrett Sedberry, Jr. (Suzanne) of Destin, FL, and Chuck Sedberry (Taryne) of Johns Creek, GA; two great-grandsons, Chas and Carson Sedberry, of Johns Creek, GA.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Rupert Jordan Sedberry, Sr. And Buron French Sedberry of South Fulton, TN; a brother Stanford Sedberry of Buena Vista; and a sister, Louise Mills of Hollow Rock.
The ceremony will be performed by Bro. Brad Patterson and Bro. Jerry Wilson. Pallbearers will be Jerry Barker, Jason Barker, Will Seward, Jack Mills, Ronnie Sedberry, and Gary Siler.
