Possibility Of Snow Friday Into Saturday

TENNESSEE VALLEY-The National Weather Service in Huntsville has forecast rain for Thursday, January 21 turning into snow later in the day and into the night.

“Two events in store over the next 48 hours.  

First, widespread showers, with scattered thunderstorms, will move into the TN Valley this afternoon and continue through the overnight hours. Heavy rainfall is possible, which may lead to ponding of water on area roadways and localized flooding in low lying areas. The rain will continue Friday morning and then transition to snow during the late afternoon/early evening hours. Accumulations of between 1/2 to 1.5 inches is possible between 3 pm and midnight. Temperatures will continue to fall and remain below freezing through much of Saturday morning and any lingering moisture on roads may freeze, so be careful!

NOTE: The timing of the transition from rain to snow may change, which could impact the snowfall amounts. Stay tuned for further updates!”

A strong storm system will approach the area today, bringing widespread showers with scattered thunderstorms late this afternoon and through the overnight hours. Some of the showers may be heavy at times, which could lead to localized flooding. Temperatures will be near steady and mild, with highs today in the upper 40s and lows overnight only falling into the lower 40s.
