Phyllis Jean Herring Potts, 72, of Saltillo died Sunday, September 22, 2024 at North Mississippi Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Phyllis was born September 22, 1952 in Pontotoc County to the late Cleo Herring and Mottie Lee Clayton Herring. She graduated from Ingomar High School and graduated from nursing school from Itawamba Community College in l984. Phyllis spent 42 years working in surgery at North Mississippi Medical Center, first as a surgical tech and then as a surgical nurse. Phyllis was a faithful member of Birmingham Ridge Baptist Church, until her health began to decline. She loved to sing in the church choir and teach Sunday school. In her years of better health, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and taking them on many adventures. A sweet lady, she lived a purpose filled life with a compassion and selfless attitude that will always be her legacy.

A Graveside-only service celebrating her life will take place at 11 AM Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024 at the Old Birmingham Ridge Cemetery with her longtime pastor, Bro. Bobby Holland officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 PM – 8 PM Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo.

Her survivors include three daughters, Sunny Marshall (Andrew) of Booneville, Amanda Potts Peoples of Fulton, and Sheila Potts Allen of Gulfport; three sons, Daniel Burk of Saltillo, Keith Potts (Rhonda) of Friendship, and Randall Potts (Diana) of Pratts Community; two sisters, Brenda Joyce McCreight (Sam) of Pontotoc, and Gloria Dorene Maddox; ten grandchildren, Drew (Braelyn) Marshall, Bethany (Deston) Wammack, Savannah Burk, Leia (Rickey) Buehler, Maddyson Cox, Leslie (Eric) Bennett, Laura (Brad) Potts, Jordan Potts, Logan Potts, and Garrett Peoples; three great-grandchildren, Kyneligh, Nora Jane, and Draco.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Potts; sister, Joan Sneed; and brother, Dwight Herring.

Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren. The family suggest memorials be made to Sanctuary Hospice House, P. O. Box 2177, Tupelo, MS 38801.
