Phyllis Claire Reel Coffield, 89, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away March 24, 2018. She was born on May 19, 1928 in Freeport, Illinois to Veryl and Margaret (Indra) Reel.
She graduated from Freeport High School in Freeport, Illinois in 1946. She received her undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology from Northwestern University in 1950. While there she held the role of Delta Zeta sorority president. She received her Master’s in Speech and Language Pathology from Vanderbilt University in 1972.
She married Kenneth Eugene Coffield September 1, 1951 and had four children together.
She worked as a speech pathologist at Huntsville Rehabilitation Center, as well as for Madison County Schools. She also taught at Alabama A&M University.
She embraced life to the fullest. Her interests included family, swimming, weaving, holistic healing, singing, music, and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents Veryl Reel and Margaret Reel, husband Kenneth Eugene Coffield, brother-in-law James Slaughter, sister-in-law Pat Reel, and niece Melanie Poe.
She is survived by her children Kevin Coffield, Michelle Coffield Vaughn, Renee Coffield Rollins, and Kurt Coffield; grandchildren Kris Coffield, Keith Vaughn (Jennifer), Niel Rollins (Christina), Colette Rollins, and Kent Rollins; great-grandchildren Liam Vaughn, Lily Vaughn, Hailey Rollins, and Trey Rollins; and siblings Duane Reel, Karen Reel Poe (John), and Janice Poe Slaughter.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, Alabama. The family will receive friends at Spry Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. A chapel service will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
