Phillip Wayne Shelton, 81, of LaFayette, passed away at his residence on Monday, December 11, 2023.
He was a member of the LaFayette Presbyterian Church. Phil was a veteran of the United States Navy, and an amateur radio operator with a passion for flying and classical music. He also enjoyed traveling. Phil was a principal in the Walker County School System where he utilized his Ed.S degree from the University of Georgia.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Warren L. and Margaret Shelton; a son, Phillip Wayne Shelton, Jr.; and a sister, Janis Elaine Brock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jane Strickland Shelton; daughters, Margaret Ruth (Ben) Hall and Julia (J.R. Beckwith) Warren Shelton; grandchildren, Phillip Shelton Forester, Jessica Forester, Cecilia Forester, and Charles Forester; great-grandchildren, Levi Brushaber and Hank Brushaber; and, a niece, Brandy Ferris.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16th at 12:00 p.m. in the LaFayette Presbyterian Church with Pastor Clay Gunter officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be in the LaFayette City Cemetery.
