Phillip M “Woody” Wood

Phillip M “Woody” Wood, 74, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on January 12, 1950. He served in the United States Army Special Forces for 19 years. He also worked at Mississippi State University ROTC. In addition he served with Starkville Police Department and Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jessie A Wood and Francis L White; brother Wallace Glaridon, sister Terri Haynes (Jeff), and son Robert E Lee.

He is survived by his wife Debra Wood of Starkville; son Clayton Wood of Pearl, and daughter Lexe Wilson (Matthew) of Louisville. Grandsons Jesse Wilson, Josh Lee (Lizzy), Jonny Lee (Ashley), and granddaughters Elizabeth Wilson and Jennifer Lee, and three great grandchildren. Sisters Patty Brittain, Karen Parmley, Tressie Wood, Shannon Price (Jeff), and brothers Jessie Wood (Mona), Brian Wood, and Steve Wood (Jayne).

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 11:00-12:00 At Adaton Baptist Church in Starkville, with the funeral services immediately following.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Wounded Warrior Project.
