Philip E. Hodge, 89, of Hornsby, passed away Friday, January 20, 2023, at Christian Care Center in Bolivar.
He was born Saturday, October 14, 1933, in Hardeman County, son of the late Luther Aubrey Hodge and Maggie Orene Edmonds Hodge, living his whole life in Hardeman County, except for a few years in Camden. He married Jean Elizabeth Armour in September of 1972 and she preceded him in death on May 31, 2022. He worked as a tool & die maker at Harmon Automotive for many years and also worked maintenance with the Board of Education. He was a 1951 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and played baseball and basketball. He enjoyed coaching many sports, being outside and being active, was an avid coon hunter, and was always working on anything in his shop, but held his greatest love for being around his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a US Army veteran and member of Hatchie Baptist church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Director.
Survivors include two daughters, Pam Pennington of Adamsville and Deborah Hodge of Bolivar; four grandchildren, Christopher Pennington, Robin Stebbins, Larry Pennington (Rachel) and Catherine Sanders (Mason); a sister, Lucy King of Hornsby; and eight great grandchildren. Tristan Pennington, Dylan Pritchett, Alayia Stebbins, Levi Pennington, Alyse Stebbins, Colton Pennington, Harley Morris and Blakeleigh Sanders. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Barry Hodge in 2013, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
